Very wet upper pond this rainy day after several days in a row of rains totally close to an inch a day. This is about as full as pond gets, Those bushes in front are Roase Mallow, a native from the state nursery that is, as specified, aggressively taking over the whole pond. Or it will if I don't take some serious action. I think best will be to completely remove the one in the foreground as well as the start up patches to the left. I think I can leave the thicket at the back (NW) corner of pond. Certainly can see the flowers on that one better than on the close one anyway. Where to put the pulled up plants? Well, some can be potted up to give away; the others will go in the pile that is off to the right where there's a kind of mini pond behind this one where I've been piling brush for years. shoot note: I also shot this scene holding the camera vertical and doing a 6 frame panorama. That image is good for enumerating plants and using to layout plans. However, for giving an accurate feel, this one frame 24mm wide angle works a lot better. there is not as much image available, but the trees look straighter,as does the horizons of the pond itself. Panoramas made with hand held cameras are good for recording what is at a scene. Not necessarily either technically or aesthetically a three star image; but at least a 2 star record of the event. I give this one 4 stars due to the many textures and shades of green.

the water plants are growing in two spots this year. Previously they had been scattered around the pond fairly randomly. This year they are clumping up near where the rose mallow have been planted. As if there is some underground relationship going on?

It's obvious that this plant liks to scatter it's own seed -- the seed casing remains intact because no animal cared to munch on it, thus carrying seeds to some other location. Instead, if the three plants cross fertilized last spring, then perhaps some more will come up underneath them. Shootnote: This is cropped in to 100% to show why it is sometimes nice to have a full frame camera handy. The Sigma 24-70 zoom seems to yield quite good images at the 70mm end. I had planted bare root seedlings from the Missouri state nursery here last year. It would appear the seeds have been dispersed.
