Geothermal install
In late 2013 I decided to do something about the HVAC situation and after much research went with a geothermal system. The install went quite smoothly, finishing up at the end of the year.
The soil type in the north field is ideal for the way heat exchange works in a geothermal system. The very fine loess particles are excellent in how they smoothly and evenly transfer heat back and forth between the surrounding soil and the liquid in the 3/4 inch distribution pipe system.
Putting in that system mean digging a 4' wide trench from the house out to an area where a 16' square area was dug to hook the pipe system together and then 4 100' long trenches out into the field. Each trench was 6' deep. Lots and lots of soil disturbance when all said and done.
The geothermal does work well and the monthly bills have gone down.
