July 2016 Chronological
Worked on a number of projects that didn't get completed, and, in fact I'm only getting around to posting these in September.
Central purple hearts in Queen Anne's Lace
They aren't always as obvious as this one.
Some creature died here, probably last night.
Fur indicates it might have been a squirrel. Perhaps one of the cats got it, but could also have been a fox. Whatever it was didn't care for intestines. Dogs took a sniff and lost interest...
Fresh cut black walnut branch. The bark is tight, but once loosened it pulls off easily. Very clear rings, indicating that three years ago it was just a twig. This was cut from a tree next to the drive. This particular branch was cut off because it was now hanging over one side of the driveway tracks. Only a slight bit of the red center showing in this image.
Trying out the shepard's crook jig with the black walnut without heating since it bends by hand ok. Heard a bit of crack when I finally got the last clamp in place. I need different clamping arrangement. I need the clamp not to swivel, but instead to fit over the roundness of the branch. The metal strip helps some, I couldn't come up with a decent way of clamping that works well.
Water only stays a day at most after a rain, unless it remains very cloudy. The post may have had electric to it at one point, but I can't find the wires inside that lead to it. I think that perhaps the best would be some kind of solar LED under and a bird feeder on top. In the meantime, have a second very healthy growth of ragweed.

This particular black locust had pods just turned from green to a reddish color. Seems to be rapidly changing from there to the brown grey they will be when dried. I don't recall ever seeing this particular shade of pinkish red before, though I'm sure it marks some important chemical change going on. Or as I've been reading, an electrical change also.
