Put in 7 silky dogwood which apparently like getting their feet wet in between drying out now and then. This was mud planting. No loose earth to fill in around roots, just squash mud into them.
This shallow gully drains the fields up to the oak groves and now tends to hold water in some places most of the time. Probably due to the luxurious growths of bush honeysuckle, russian olive, poison ivy and the like.
